DUAL SERV-NULLING PRESSURE SYSTEM
MODEL 5D
Description | Features | Specifications
Dual Servo-Nulling Pressure System Model 5D

Description:
The Servo-Nulling Pressure System, Model 5D, is a dual resistance servo-nulling transducer system designed to simultaneously measure two fluid pressures in microscopic structures, which can be penetrated by glass micropipettes.

Each system maintains constant the electrical resistance measured between the low resistance pipette fluid, and the fluid being measured by generating an equal and opposing pressure which is measured by standard pressure transducers (supplied by the user).

Specially developed circuitry matched to the hydraulic properties of the glass micropipettes allows one to measure pressures through tip openings as small as 1/2 micrometer ID, with high resolution and fidelity.

Features:
Ultra-low compliance of the order of 10-10 cm3/mm Hg, with micropipette tips of 1.5 micrometer ID or less.

Frequency response linear from DC to 30Hz.

Linear output throughout the measuring range. Measures pressures to 200 mm Hg.

Can be utilized with glass pipettes with inside diameter tips ranging from .5 to 5 micrometer. Can also be used with a single pipette for single site measurements.

Continuous monitoring of system condition during operation, including simultaneous internal video presentation of pipette resistance, bridge balance, bridge resistance, and output power.

BNC video output connectors are provided so that the video presentation can be displayed on other monitors.

A special quadrature phase feedback system is incorporated to automatically correct for phase errors so as to maintain servo-null phase detector operation at maximum sensitivity, eliminating the need for manual adjustment for stray capacity.

Specifications:
System: Self contained resistance servo-nulling electro-hydraulic systems for measurement of pressures through glass micro pipettes.
Pipettes: Glass micro pipettes with tip openings from 0.5 to 5 micrometer with 0.5 to 2 Molar NaCl water solutions.
Range: -50 to +200 mm Hg, when used with conventional pressure transducers suitable for this range.
Accuracy: ±0.5 mm Hg (limited by the accuracy of conventional transducer system).
Fidelity: Frequency response linear from DC to 30 Hz. Zero reference stable to ±1 mm Hg for periods in excess of 1 hour.
Readouts: Digital video systems simultaneously display on dual monitors, synchronous detector and pipette waveforms together with pipette resistance, bridge balance condition and pump motor drive.
Weight: Approximately 50 pounds (22.7 kg).
Power: 100 VAC, 1.7 A, 47-63 Hz.

The Model 5D Servo-Nulling Pressure System is comprised of:
  1. Input preamplifier with automatic stray capacitance compensation feature.
  2. Processing amplifiers.
  3. Electro-hydraulic voltage to pressure converters.
  4. 4 micro-cannulae holders.
  5. 2 Test chambers for micro pipettes.
  6. Complete operating instructions including electronic and hydraulic checkout.
In addition, the system requires a low compliance pressure gauge such as the P-23XL Series from Gould, Inc., a pressure gauge readout, pipettes and any equipment necessary for their fabrication, such as pipette pullers etc. Pipette grinders, pipette filling container and micromanipulator are not supplied with this system but may be purchased from us separately. Upon request, rack mounts are available.
